Getting Started

We all want success and we know how to get there or at least have an idea of what to do. But before we get started on the adventure of reaching our full potential or whatever it is you define success as. We say to ourselves, someday. We sit, ponder, and spend countless hours dreaming about all the successful things we would do someday. I don’t want to start off on a depressing note here but we have to wake up and face reality. You have a very short period of existence. There is limited time to do the things you want in life. You can either begin now or waste precious time coming up with excuses for why you can’t get started. Some of them are valid but not the majority.

Getting started on a new endeavor requires significant mental energy and can often feel extremely hard. But getting started is about understanding and overcoming the obstacles that prevent us from diving right in. Thinking critically about the root cause of what is holding you back from starting might seem like the logical thing to do. However, this might lead to you overanalyzing instead of doing which often ends up adding more resistance.

Develop Discipline And Practicality

Discipline is defined as doing something whether you feel like it or not. You have to be disciplined and ignore the allure of the excuses or instead of dreaming, get up and get started. You know what you have to do, take responsibility for your actions, and do it. Separate yourself from most people. Realize that it’s nobody else’s fault why you aren’t where you want to be. You have to take responsibility and get started.

Here is the thing. Try a bunch of stuff that are practical, meaning the activity should add value to your life. Focus on your strengths, not your weaknesses, and choose something that aligns with who you are. Then develop the discipline to stick with it. Maybe just six months or a year, just stick with it and see if you like it. Also, make sure whatever you choose can be profitable in the long term.

None of us are perfect. While you might be tempted to berate yourself for holding off on a project, remember that there’s no designated “right” time to start. It’s never too late and, after all, you’re only human. So know your weaknesses, focus on your strengths and forgive yourself. Every day of your life is an opportunity to create. So, it doesn’t really matter if you feel “ready” or if you’re “sure” of yourself.

Just get started and see what happens.
